Arizona's Verde Valley wineries win top awards

Cottonwood, AZ- (December 3, 2009) - On November 22nd winemakers from all across Arizona gathered for the first time to showcase their wines at the Arizona Wine Growers Festival. Verde Valley winemakers stole the show winning 9 of the 14 gold medals that were awarded at the festival, including two Best of Show category and three in the People's Choice category.

Eric Glomski, owner and winemaker at Page Springs Cellars took home seven of the gold medals including two Best of Show Awards and two People's Choice Awards. But it wasn't the amount of awards Glomski received that gave him the "warm fuzzies" he says, "The simple fact that all these wineries were in the same place at the same time really helped create solidarity for our industry. I really felt this cohesiveness, and could see that we had finally arrived."

The festival was the largest meeting of Arizona winemakers ever - 20 wineries participated in the event and 800 people joined in the festivities tasting and voting for their favorite wines!

Glomski was not the only one of the Verde Valley winemakers to take home an award. Barbara and Bob Predmore, owners of Alcantara Vineyards won two gold medals for their 2006 Petit Sirah and three bronze medals! "We are very excited about everything that came out of this event, it shows the quality of the wine that is coming out of Northern Arizona," says Barbara Predmore.

Javelina Leap Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars also did well in the competition. Javelina Leap winemaker and owner Rod Snapp, took home a gold for his 2008 Sirah and a silver for his 2008 Cabernet Franc and Caduceus Cellars was awarded a gold medal for their 2007 Premier Paso. Snapp said "It was wonderful to see the support of Arizonans, nearly 1,000 people enjoyed the day and we had people 6 deep at our table sampling our wines. Winning Gold & Silver in the wine category of Arizona wine made from Arizona grapes reinforces the fact that our wines have reached national status and that feels real good!"

The success that the Verde Valley wineries had at this festival is another testament that the Verde Valley wine region has come of age. The region not only has the ideal soil, climate, and weather to nurture great grapes but also talented winemakerswho know how to turn great grapes into spectacular wine.

The Verde Valley Wine Trail is made up of four wineries and two tasting rooms: Page Springs Cellars, Alcantara Vineyards, Javelina Leap Vineyards, Oak Creek Vineyards, Caduceus Cellars, and Jerome Winery. The Verde Valley Wine Trail invites wine enthusiasts to experience a destination rich in history, beauty, and the production of exquisite wines.
